Candy Equipment Depositing Machine Operation Guide

Candy equipment depositors are used to form the final shape of candies such as gummy bears, jelly beans, marshmallows, chocolates, etc. They can be used in conjunction with molds or, if a clear shape is not required, can be deposited directly onto a conveyor. Chocolate candy drops are an example of direct depositing.

The molten candy is poured into a hopper. The hopper contains an agitator and heater to keep the candy in optimal condition. There is a piston at the bottom of the hopper. The piston sucks in a measured amount of product and discharges it to a manifold through a valve. When filling, the valve controls the flow of product at the piston opening, and when discharging, the valve opens to allow the product at the piston opening to flow to the dispensing nozzle.

The nozzle manifold runs the width of the depositor and can accommodate any number of discharge nozzles depending on the required production capacity. As the piston cycles, the product is discharged through the nozzle.

When the product is unformed and placed directly on the conveyor, no timing is required. The candy is dispensed at a constant cycle rate, and the row spacing is determined by the conveyor speed relative to the cycle rate.

If a more defined shape is required, such as gummy bears, a mold is required. The molds can be made from reusable silicone sheets. For higher production, corn starch molds can be used. Corn starch is filled into a wooden frame. A plate with a male plug is pressed into it to form the mold cavities. This can be done on a separate machine or on the same depositor.

Whether corn starch or silicone molds, they are indexed under the depositor and paused as each row of cavities is filled. Some high-speed depositors move the nozzle manifold linearly back and forth, tracking the mold. This eliminates the need to index the mold. This continuous motion molding allows for higher production.

After the candy is poured, it needs to wait for a period of time to cool and solidify. The candy is then scraped off a conveyor or removed from the mold. If corn starch molds are used, the corn starch and mold frame are recycled and re-pressed for the next molding cycle.

For example, a small candy factory or laboratory can choose a desktop depositing machine, which can produce about 2000-5000 soft candies/hour; while a large candy manufacturer needs a large fully automatic depositing machine, which can produce millions of candies/hour.

Accuracy: A high-precision depositing machine can ensure that the weight, volume and shape of each candy are highly consistent, which is important for product quality and packaging. A depositing machine with an advanced control system should be selected, such as equipment equipped with high-precision sensors and servo drive systems, which can achieve precise pouring volume control, and its weight change can be controlled within ±2%.

Compatibility: Consider the integration and compatibility of the depositing machine with other equipment, such as whether the connection with mixing equipment, cooling equipment, packaging equipment, etc. is smooth, to ensure the efficient operation of the entire production process.

Flexibility: In order to meet the production needs of different candy products, the depositing machine should have a certain degree of flexibility. For example, molds can be easily replaced to produce candies of different shapes, sizes and colors; at the same time, the parameter settings of the equipment should be easy to adjust to suit different production recipes and process requirements.
